About Mechanical Engineering Department
The Mechanical Department is established in the year 1999 with a student strength of 60. The department is having well established laboratories as per JNTU syllabus. It is having well qualified and experienced staff with experience in industry, teaching and research field.
VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT
To be reckoned as an esteemed institute that would provide value added Human Resource in the field of Mechanical Engineering meeting the quality demands of Industry, Teaching Institutes and Research Organizations world wide who are the end users/final customers of the Human Resource.
MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT
To nurture the young talent available in the country and transform them into enterprising technologists so that they contribute immensely to the technological development and prosperity of the country and provide dynamic leadership to others.
ABOUT THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Head of Department is Dr.V. Janardhana Chetty .
Dr. V. Janardhana Chetty got his BE(Mech, Hons) from Sri Venkateswara University in 1961. He got his ME in IC Engines & Gas Turbines in 1963 from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He joined Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur (WB) -- a national laboratory under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of Ministry of Education, Government of India -- as Scientist B in 1963. He was deputed to Soviet Union in 1966 on Indo – Soviet Cultural Exchange scheme when he did his Doctorate in Moscow Automobile & Highways Research Institute in the field of “Combustion in Diesel Engines”. He rose to the position of Assistant Director of Automobile & I.C.Engineering Department. He joined Vasavi College of Engineering, Hyderabad in 1990 as Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department and worked till 1999. After 1 year of service as HOD, Mechanical Engineering Department & Vice-Principal in JBIET, Hyderabad, he joined VJIT as HOD, Mechanical Engineering Department in 2000. For a period of 3 years he worked as Principal of VJIT. At present, he is head of Mechanical Engineering Department in VJIT.
He has 18 publications in International and National journals.

Students of Mechanical Engineering Department are placed well in such reputed organizations as INFOTECH, L&T, NRB Bearings, Asian Paints, ZOLON Tech, Caterpiller INC, INFOSYS, Cognizant, IBM, Sathyam Computers, WIPRO etc etc.
